About

Engineering, not science fair

Inventor Pi is a 501(c)(3) non-profit building low-cost Raspberry Pi kits that teach K-12 students how to think like engineers. Our approach is built on two principles: learn by building, not by following, and treat every project as an engineering problem, not a display piece.

The anti-tutorial trap

Most STEM kits hand students a step-by-step guide and a pre-wired breadboard. Students copy the steps, get a working circuit, and learn nothing about why it works. Our puzzle-based approach starts every session with a question and a pile of parts. The answer emerges through experimentation, failure, and iteration - the same cycle real engineers use every day.

Engineering vs. science-fair

Science fair rewards the final display. Engineering rewards the process: defining the problem, trying a solution, watching it fail, and making it better. Our curriculum emphasizes iterative design, debugging under real constraints, and applying the same concept across different contexts. Students learn that getting it wrong is the first step to getting it right.

Each kit targets a specific domain with progressive tiers that build toward the next. Every kit ships with a Raspberry Pi, all components, and a set of puzzle cards - no screen required for the first challenge.

Our entry-level kit sparks curiosity through puzzles. Each challenge reveals a new concept: blinking an LED teaches GPIO, a Morse-code game teaches serial protocols, and a boolean-logic maze teaches digital circuits. No tutorials - just discovery.
